I read an Instagram post from Oogaa baby, she talked about the toxicity on BPA free plastics. How manufacturers took BPA out of plastics but added BPS. A chemical that is also harmful. I started reading and reading about this and it lead to the toxicity of Teflon.
So after spending an afternoon researching how my beloved cookware if slowly poisoning my family I went crazy and removed all of my non stick cookware. Pots and pans that I loved. I had a really nice and somewhat price collection that I gave away to my husbands step sister. I know what your thinking. I gave away something I considered toxic for my family to another family member. How could I do that? I thought about it, then realized she didn’t have the means to spend $200 plus on a ceramic pan so she will most likely buy the cheap brand starter kit. My cookware was a big step up from the starter kit, still non stick but at least a fancy non stick brand.
I still haven’t bought a skillet that we so desperately need. I have a cast iron skillet and a 6qt Dutch oven. I’ve ben looking everywhere for a decently priced 100% ceramic skillet but I haven’t found one. I’m just going to have to bite the bullet and pay the price. we have been cooking our eggs in the dutch oven and its ridiculous.
Costco has really nice glass water bottles that I got to substitute my plastic ones and I found Le Creuset bakeware at Home Goods for an amazing deal.
Slowly but surely I will have my kitchen fully stoked again for now I am enjoying all the extra space I have.
Being Paleo has changed our perspective, everything we do is to better ourselves. We started by eating healthy and now we are cooking with non toxic cookware. Our next step is to really follow the reuse, reduce mentality. Bringing our reusable bag to the store and trying to not buy things we don’t need. This last one is a big challenge but hopefully by the end of the year we will be doing it like second nature.
I added a few bamboo goodies for her
Edit to add: bamboo is a great cooking material, I had extra boards and spoons so I gave them to her. Some moms were asking what the problem was with them. No problem! love bamboo.
